QAFF2025: A Festival to Celebrate and Connect
The Quibdó Africa Film Festival (QAFF) 2025, under the motto "Invisible Borders", is presented as a vital platform to make visible the challenges of Afro-descendant communities, both in Colombia and globally. Quibdó, the venue of the festival, takes on a special meaning as a symbol of resistance and creativity in the midst of a society divided by invisible barriers of racism, violence, poverty and exclusion, which restrict opportunities for development and freedom, particularly for young people.
In this seventh edition, the QAFF becomes a space for cultural and social transformation, where cinema acts as a vehicle for resistance and change. More than entertainment, the screenings seek to educate and empower, linking the experiences of Quibdó with the experiences of Afro communities around the world. "Invisible Borders" represents a declaration of hope that inspires the inhabitants of Quibdó to envision a future of possibilities beyond their limitations.
The selection of films includes documentaries that explore the lives and challenges of Afro-descendant communities, as well as fiction that addresses issues of identity, social justice and human rights. This program offers a diverse perspective on Afro-global experiences and fosters intercultural dialogue in a global context where borders, although invisible, have a profound impact on the lives of millions of people.
In addition to screenings, QAFF 2025 includes workshops and activities designed to empower young people in Quibdó, giving them tools to tell their own stories and challenge the invisible barriers they face. Thus, the festival is not only a showcase for Afro-descendant cinema, but a catalyst for social change, inviting the community to imagine a world where invisible borders are broken.
On a cultural level, “Fronteras Invisibles” seeks to bring Quibdó’s message of resistance and creativity to a global audience, expanding the city’s visibility and connecting its local realities with an international audience. The festival offers an opportunity for filmmakers and viewers from around the world to come together in a space of reflection and dialogue, exploring how Afro-descendant communities are resisting and redefining their boundaries.
QAFF 2025 also creates a symbolic bridge between Africa and its diaspora, represented by the image of the baobab, a deep-rooted tree that symbolises connection and resilience. Like the baobab, the festival is a refuge and a meeting point, where stories are shared and borders are blurred, celebrating diversity and reaffirming QAFF as an agent of cultural and social change.
