AWARD 2022

The Quibdo Africa Film Festival has selected 43 productions from 25 different countries for the event, which will be held in person in Pointe-Noire and in virtual mode for Colombia and the rest of the world from 14 to 18 September 2021.
After extensive screening sessions and reflections on the 277 films registered on the festival platform, the curators are pleased to announce today the official selection.  The films were evaluated by a jury composed of directors, actors, journalists and film critics.

WINNER "Heaven reaches down to earth" By Tebogo Malebogo Best Script Prize South Africa Short - 10' Tebogo Malebogo is a South African director. His first short, Mthunzi (2019), premiered at Locarno and New York Film Festival. It was awarded the Special Jury Award at AFI Fest. His sophomore short, Heaven Reaches Down to Earth (2020), screened at Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival and Chicago International Film Festival.

She is a media studies and museum studies graduate and publishes creative and scholarly work on a variety of social issues. Being of multicultural Sudanese and Russian backgrounds, she is most interested in stories that examine the complexity of identity.

WINNER "WATA" By Ronan McKenzie and Joy Yamusangie Best Soundtrack Prize United Kingdom Short - 13'44 Ronan Mckenzie is a freelance photographer and stylist from Walthamstow, north east London. Joy Yamusangie is a visual artist currently working in London. Specialising in illustration, Yamusangie experiments with a range of traditional processes such as drawing, painting and collaging to produce mixed media pieces.

Born on May 2, 1982 in Aklakou in the Prefecture of the Lakes, Boris did all his school studies in Lomé leading to a baccalaureate diploma. After university studies in Language and Communication Sciences (2004), Sociology (2005), Corporate Communications, he launched into his passion: drawing.

Kevin directed Les devoirs his very first film (Revelation of the Year Award and Best Male Performance at the 4th Edition of Fickin Film Festival) and in 2018.

Having worked in the industry for several years, Nthabiseng’s breakthrough short film ‘Overcome Beloved’ received a nomination from the Writers Guild of South Africa 2020 Muse Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Writing.
